Background Services

Find out more about the services we offer:

County Criminal Research
A specific search of county court records for felony or misdemeanor court dispositions. The employer determines the counties to be searched based upon address history or can ask GroupOne to determine counties and submit requests. Statewide and so called "National" databases are repositories of County information. GroupOne has always encouraged our clients to utilize county information over databases, however database criminal information provides additional due-diligence and coverage.

Federal Criminal Research
Violations of Federal Law will not be found in county records. The location of the information depends upon jurisdiction and where the charge was filed. The federal court system is organized by districts, and is searched similarly to county records. Unlike county courts, federal records can be searched statewide or nationwide. Unlike county courts, matching identifiers are not readily available in Federal records.

Multi-State Criminal and Sex Offender Database Check
GroupOne now offers a Multi-State Criminal Search, which provides the speed of a database criminal search with the scope that goes beyond a single state. This is not a "national" search. Not all states provide access to all levels of the criminal records held in the state's repository. Jurisdictions at all levels (county, state, federal) are sometimes months or years behind in posting criminal records or changes. It is wise to utilize this type of research as either preliminary or backup research to actual county searches.

Statewide Criminal Database Checks
Some states (including Texas) maintain repositories of criminal information submitted by the county courts and local law enforcement authorities in that state. HHS/OIG, and other regulatory bodies often require that these be checked for certain positions. GroupOne conducts these searches as well, but does not recommend them for primary source information.

Sex Offender Registry
Individuals convicted of certain sexual offenses are required by the court system to notify local law enforcement, and thereby 'community' of their residence. The sex offender registry is a repository of this information, and reflects current addresses as reported, not according to the location of any offense. Not all states maintain these registries, at least as a matter of public record.

Professional License and Certification Verification
Our research specialists verify the license(s) at the primary source. We verify hundreds of licenses each week in all states, as well as national certifications. Our reports reflect status, dates if available, and notification of stipulations.

Instant Work History Information
GroupOne participating members have access to our online database of work histories and education information. Meaningful, non-anecdotal termination data is submitted by the member upon an employee's departure. This information can be shared legally through GroupOne under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, which also provides conditional immunity from civil action. Verifications obtained by GroupOne researchers also build this database which is currently approaching 500,000 records.

Previous Employment Verification
Researchers contact previous employers to verify information provided by the applicant. Information beyond dates and title are queried, including termination type, reason for termination, wage at termination, and eligibility for rehire. This information goes into the work history database.

Interactive Voice Response (Inbound Verifications) System
This service is free to GroupOne members. Inquiring potential employers call an automated number to verify employment information, eliminating much of your inbound phone call activity. The service is available on two levels: one for employment verification only, and the second to assist verification of data needed for loans, mortgages, etc.

Education Verification
GroupOne calls to confirm both degrees/certificates and dates of attendance supplied by the applicant. Some institutions may either require a written release, or utilize pay-for-use services.

Social Security Number Verification
Applicant's supplied SSN is validated. Contacting the Social Security Administration is not always the most reliable or efficient method. Credit Header information is quite reliable.

Previous Address Locator
This report utilizes major credit source 'header' information to identify the individual, previous addresses, "other" or maiden names, and aliases. This report is valuable in determining criminal search parameters.
